Casa del Lume
This townhouse takes its name from a small detail outside the front door regarding an ancient and fascinating practice of street lighting. By means of a hook placed next to the door, a chain linked with an oil lantern, was passed. This lantern was then pulled up to the first floor so as to illuminate the entire street at night.
This wonderful townhouse is a unique residence in the heart of Spello, just off Via Giulia.
It consists in 4 levels and has been carefully restored, maintaining its medieval character, given by stone walls, niches and many other original details like an antique sink dating from the XVII Century.
The entrance to the first level opens into a confortable open space dedicated to the kitchen area with walk in fireplace and a bathroom. Through a feature spiral staircase made of wood, one reaches the lower level living area with a possible second entrance. This room is very characteristic due to the presence of the stone vaulted ceiling and the vaulted alcove also in stone.
Going down for another flight of stairs, we arrive in a unique and particular room. It’s the most fascinating room of the house, due to the presence of a medieval well, in perfect conditions which gives the room its old world charme. This room is at the level of the street below and it also provides an efficient alternative entrance.
At the second level there are 2 double bedrooms, and one of them has a breathtaking view of Spello and the surrounding landscape. A spacious and well decorated bathroom is on this floor as well.
